Halifax isn't a town that is championed for it's hardcore/punk scene or any particular music scene at all, so when something new and original surfaces it's a rare treat. The latest offering is Surreal, a Yorkshire crossover including Halifax, with a Swedish member thrown in too for good measure.
Anyway, they've just released their '5 Hour Demo Tape' online. It's actually under 5 minutes, but it's what they've clubbed together from a 5 hour wedge of writing and recording.
There's room for improvement but that's what demos are for. It's a tightly wound taster of a band in the early stages of creating some nice and doomy punk. So check it out, catch them early and look out for a physical release in the near future. Especially if you believe the only good thing Halifax has to offer to music is that it's a decent travelling distance to Leeds and Manchester.
